More Swedish Tomte’s on the way

Aside

Well here are a few more Tomte’s that will soon be on my Etsy site.  I am having so much fun with these little guys I hate leaving my studio to do other things, like work.  The Tomte is a mythical creature of Scandinavian folklore.  It was believed that he took care of a farmer’s home and children and would protect them from any misfortune.  His size varies from a few inches to about half the size of an adult man.  They are an important part of Christmas and are likened to a benevolent gnome.

Now that we have a light dusting of snow I am really getting in the Christmas spirit.  Plus I have a number of shows coming up in the next month I need to get ready for those.

I’ll try to blog here as much as I can.ImageImage

Researching my Swedish Heritage

Well I have been researching my family tree for the past year or so.   We had no idea that our father’s great grandfather was from Sweden.  So I have been looking for inspiration for my sculptures and came across the tradition of the Tomte.  I will go into this a bit more in later posts but for now here is a picture of my first Swedish Tomte made out of polymer clay.

Another is almost ready in the studio and will post this later in the week.
